Essex needs volunteer firefighters

Essex Fire and Rescue is going on a hiring spree.

With 12 positions to fill, it's seeking applicants for volunteer firefighters.

The deadline to apply is January 22, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.

"While we are fortunate to have dedicated teams of volunteer firefighters at all three stations -- we are launching the Firefighter Recruitment Campaign to reach individuals who are interested in doing their part to protect our community," said Fire Chief Jason Pillon.

Pillon started his career in 1997 as a volunteer firefighter at Station 3 and worked his way up the chain of command to Fire Chief earlier this month.

He served as the Acting Chief after former Chief Rick Arnel retired in October.

"Becoming a volunteer firefighter is a fantastic opportunity to help protect your community," added Pillon. "It also allows you to get advanced training and learn new skills."

The campaign educates potential firefighters about the process and job requirements needed to gain a position with Essex Fire and Rescue Services. The Town of Essex posted resources about the training process and the application form online.

Those interested can also call 519-776-7132.
