Rainfall prompts watershed statement from ERCA

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a statement in response to Tuesday's rainfall.

ERCA has issued a watershed conditions statement after Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for Windsor-Essex. Up to 35 millimetres of rain is in the forecast by Tuesday night.

"There is a concern for the accumulation of standing water in low-lying areas throughout the Essex Region, especially adjacent to and within floodplain areas of all major waterways and shoreline areas," said ERCA Water Resources Engineer Tian Martin.

The rain totals are below the criteria for a flood watch, said Martin.

ERCA has asked people to stay clear of areas where water may swell, as standing water and slippery banks may be dangerous.

The statement is in effect through at least 10 a.m. Wednesday.
