Windsor Catholic school latest to earn IB certification

One of Windsor's Catholic elementary schools has received word it can start calling itself an International Baccalaureate World School.

Christ the King Catholic School, a French immersion school, won the designation for its primary years program.

"The IB program brings a new level of credibility to our school and, along with our French Immersion program, provides our students with a wonderful head start on their academic journey," said Principal Laura Mills.

The International Baccalaureate program started in 1968 and is authorized at schools that deliver specific programs aimed at developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people.

For the past two years, Christ the King has been in the candidacy phase waiting for final approval. During that time, teachers received training from IB program coordinators in preparation.

"When you become an IB school, you gain access to some of the best educational practices globally," said Superintendent of Education at the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board Steven Bellaire. "Earning this authorization is definitely going to have a measurable impact on the intellectual development of students at Christ the King."

More than 4,000 schools around the world are established IB schools.
