Funeral for victim of Belle River homicide set for Monday

The victim of Saturday's homicide in Belle River will be laid to rest on Monday after a mass at St. Anne Church in Tecumseh.

The mass starts at 11 a.m. Tony Bechara will be cremated afterwards.

Bechara was found in his home on Faleria Street just before 10:30 a.m. last Saturday by Ontario Provincial Police officers. He had life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after.

The OPP has charged another 47-year-old man, Glen Mayer of LaSalle, with first-degree murder.

His death remains under investigation.

Bechara managed the Bourbon Tap and Grill on Tecumseh Road East in Tecumseh. His obituary said he was well-loved by his work family.

His visitation is on Sunday at Windsor Chapel on Banwell Road from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Prayers for Bechara will be at 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home on Banwell Road.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
