High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

The John McGivney Children's Centre received a major donation to support its specialized programming.The Stephanie and Barry Zekelman Foundation donated $200,000 to support the rehabilitation and childhood development programs.This is not the first time the foundation has donated to the children's centre. In total, the foundation has committed $310,000 to the children's centre.“Their remarkable investments in JMCC help us in our ongoing commitment to ensuring kids and youth with disabilities and developmental differences receive quality, family-centred care in state-of-the-art facilities,” said Jennifer Jovanovski, JMCC CEO.The centre's family waiting area has been officially renamed the Stephanie and Barry Zekelman Foundation Family Waiting Area.
