Lakeshore to open pickleball courts early

Pickleball enthusiasts will have a chance to take the court earlier than anticipated in the Municipality of Lakeshore.

Lakeshore will open its pickleball courts throughout the Municipality on Monday.

The courts typically open around May 1, but Frank Jeney, Lakeshore's corporate leader of community health and safety services, said milder weather patterns mean a longer pickleball season.

"We are always striving to open our facilities early to improve access to recreation for both residents and visitors," said Jeney. "With the warmer weather we’ve been experiencing, we’re happy to open these courts three weeks earlier than usual."

Players may start purchasing tennis and pickleball court keys on Monday. Complete information can be found on the Municipality's official website.

Outdoor pickleball courts are at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, Leffler Park, River Ridge Park, Maidstone Park, and Lighthouse Cove Lions Community Park. Indoor courts are also available at Atlas Tube and the Comber Community Centre.

Coming this year, six more pickleball-specific outdoor courts will be created at Atlas Tube.
