76 charges laid in one day in Hwy. 401 enforcement blitz

Drivers should consider themselves warned. Police and Ministry of Transportation officials are watching for speeders and distracted drivers in the construction zones along Hwy. 401 in Essex County.

The Ontario Provincial Police, municipal police services, and the Ministry have combined their efforts between Puce Road and Manning Road.

On Thursday alone, they laid 76 charges. Most were for speeding, but five were for stunt driving.

Police caught one driver going 180 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Motorists are reminded fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones.
