LaSalle man wins big playing ENCORE for the first time in years

A LaSalle grandfather says he'll give back to his community after matching the last six digits on his ENCORE ticket with the winning numbers in a March draw.

Thomas Staszuk has been playing the same numbers and quick picks for years. He always plays ENCORE.

However, he had never won big until a recent Saturday morning stop at the convenience store.

"I went in to get a newspaper and to check my tickets. I scanned it and heard the little tune. I looked at the screen and thought there was no way!" he said. "My wife asked me, 'What's wrong?' and I showed her the validation slip. She couldn't believe it either."

"We shared a big hug," he added. "I never dreamt I'd win this much.

The ticket was worth $100,000.

Staszuk bought it at the Mac's on Malden Road in LaSalle.
