Basketball festival coming to Riverfront Plaza

A large basketball tournament featuring teams from Windsor-Essex and beyond will be hosted at the Windsor Riverfront Festival Plaza this summer.

During Battle 519's Battle at the Plaza 26 teams, in four divisions, will compete over three days from August 30 to September 1.

Event organizers promise to bring a festival-style atmosphere to the tournament.

"It's a community event basketball festival. It extends beyond basketball. We're trying to make it a community event that incorporates food and beverage vendors, we have dry good vendors as well, we have artists performing on stage," said

Manny Pangilinan, president of Battle 519.

All money raised will go to two local charities, W.E. Care for Kids and the Hospice of Windsor-Essex.

Battle 519 is looking for team submissions along with additional sponsors, vendors and donations.
