Alert issued after increase in opioid overdoses

An increase in opioid-related overdoses was reported last week in Windsor-Essex.

The Windsor-Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy (WECOSS) reported that 13 opioid-related emergency department visits were recorded between Sunday, May 12, and Saturday, May 18.

All of them involved fentanyl.

"Partners involved in the WECOSS, including the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, Windsor Regional Hospital, Essex Windsor-EMS, Erie Shores Healthcare, and police services, continue to monitor this increase and are working to understand more about these reported cases," read the alert from WECOSS.

The health unit has asked residents to report any similarities between the cases.
