UPDATE: Street closures underway for Detroit Grand Prix

If you're heading to Detroit this week, you'll have to work around some street closures.

With streets in the downtown core occupied for this weekend's Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, there is a series of closures in effect.

The following streets and spaces in downtown Detroit are now closed and will remain so until Wednesday, June 5.

  • Atwater from Riopelle to Hart Plaza

  • Bates from Jefferson to Atwater

  • Eastbound Jefferson Avenue from the Lodge Freeway to Rivard

  • Westbound Jefferson Avenue between Rivard and Washington Boulevard

  • Woodward Avenue from State to Jefferson

  • Cadillac Square, west of Bates

  • Campus Martius

These street closures take effect Wednesday and end Monday.

  • Renaissance Drive West

  • Franklin between Rivard and St. Antoine

  • Rivard between Jefferson and Atwater

  • St. Antoine between Jefferson and Atwater

Commuters are encouraged to use the Q-Line rapid transit system and the People Mover to get around the closures.

Transit Windsor will offer the tunnel bus to Detroit, but a detour is in effect.

Buses will drop off passengers only at the Mariners Church stop until after the Grand Prix.

Transit Windsor reported on Wednesday morning that starting Monday and ending Sunday, June 9, there will be an additional detour. For northbound use, the regular route will proceed to Jefferson Avenue, continue on Jefferson, then go left on Beaubien, left on Congress, right on Washington Boulevard, then back to the normal route.

Southbound tunnel bus use next week will involve taking the regular route to Washington Boulevard, then left on Larned, right on Randolph, and then back to the normal route.

The IndyCar race is downtown for the second year in a row, after being on Belle Isle for some years.

Complete information about the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix can be found on its official website.

The City of Windsor is once again acting as a sponsoring partner of the race.
