Tornado confirmed in Leamington area

The region has had its second tornado of the year.

The Northern Tornadoes Project at Western University said based on video, photo, and radar evidence, the twister appears to have touched down around 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday close to the Albuna Townline Road and County Road 14 in Leamington.

"The parent storm was developing rapidly at the time and had no rotation on radar, making it a landspout-type tornado," said the project.

It didn't appear to cause any damage, so the Northern Tornadoes Project won't send a survey team to the area.

It's the second tornado in Ontario this year. The first was also in Essex County, in Malden Centre, on March 16.

That tornado was an EF-1 and was the earliest ever recorded in the province.
