High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

A week after issuing an extended heat warning for the region, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit has ended it.The warning from the health unit followed a similar advisory from Environment Canada on June 17.The health unit issues an extended heat warning whenever the forecast calls for three or more consecutive days where daytime temperatures reach at least 31 C, the humidex reaches 42 C, or night-time lows exceed 21 C.Environment Canada now predicts daytime highs to return to more normal temperatures, below the threshold used by the health unit.Monday's high should peak at 29 C with a humidex value of 32 C.On Tuesday, the region can expect a high of 31 C with a humidex of 39 C.
