Mixed results for Windsor-built minivans in second quarter

The latest sales figures for two Windsor-built minivans went in different directions in the second quarter of 2024.

Stellantis Canada released its quarter-two sales numbers on Wednesday. While the automaker reported a 12 per cent overall increase in sales from the first quarter, the figures dropped 26 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2023.

"We're encouraged by quarter-two sales progress, with increases for the vast majority of our brands as compared to the first quarter," said Stellantis Canada President Jeff Hines.

The Windsor-built Chrysler Pacifica factored into the report. Stellantis sold 2,211 vehicles in April, May, and June, a 31 per cent drop compared to last year.

In 2024 to date, Pacifica sales are down 34 per cent, compared to the first six months of 2023.

However, the other locally-built minivan, the Chrysler Grand Caravan, reported strong sales during the quarter, with a whopping 149 per cent increase. Stellantis sold 2,107 units in the second quarter.

Year to date, Grand Caravan sales are up 88 per cent compared to this point in 2023.

The automaker is still the top minivan brand in Canada, and the Grand Caravan's strong performance was fueled by commercial fleet sales.

Sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) went up in Canada by four per cent during the quarter.
