The Municipality of Leamington will transform a popular community space.
Rick Atkin Park, located along Robson Road and just a short distance from the waterfront, will undergo a major renewal project.
Work has begun on new features that will be introduced starting this fall.
"Rick Atkin Park holds a special place in the hearts of many Leamington residents," said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. "These upgrades will ensure the park remains a safe, enjoyable, and accessible destination for everyone to enjoy."
The Municipality will realign the park's asphalt walking paths to improve accessibility and access to the waterfront and marina. The park's washroom facility will be torn down and replaced with a new, larger building. There will also be a storage facility built to enable staff to store equipment on-site.
A water-filling station will also be added, with hydro and water upgrades enhancing the park's ability to host community events.
These components are expected to be ready by this fall.
Coming in spring 2025 will be a new playground. A new, nautical-themed play structure will be built. The current playground, which includes the iconic wooden ship, will be replaced.
