Local athlete preparing for Special Olympic World Winter Games

While most the world is focused on the Paris Olympics, a local athlete has set her sights to the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

Breanna Williams, 15, has qualified for Team Canada for the Special Olumpics Winter Games in March 2025 in Turin Italy.

She qualified for the figure skating event by competing at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary this winter.

Special Olympics Team Canada will compete in five winter sports: short track speed skating, figure skating, cross country skiing, alpine skiing and snowshoe.

The Special Olympics World Winter Games are specifically designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities, and some athletes may have co-existing disabilities.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
