Contractor facing fraud charges

Windsor police have charged a local contractor after multiple homeowners were defrauded of nearly $600,000.

The Windsor Police Financial Crimes Unit said the 41-year-old was charged with defrauding 10 individuals out of a total of $593,247 between March 2021 and June 2023.

According to police, the suspect solicited deposits ranging from $20,000 to $115,000 under the guise of completing various construction projects.

One victim reported they gave the contractor $20,000 to start excavation work on their property. The contractor requested an additional $75,000 to continue the project. After receiving the funds, he did not return to complete the job.

The suspect is now facing 10 charges of fraud over $5,000.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
