Man charged with arson after backyard deck fire

Windsor police have arrested a man for allegedly setting a rear deck on fire.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday on Janette Avenue near Park Street West. When officers arrived, they found a man on the grass with severe burns. Police learned that there had been an argument between the man and people living at a home on Caron Avenue.

The argument escalated into physical violence, and police say the man poured gasoline on the backyard deck and then set it on fire. The suspect then ran from the scene before being found by police a short time later.

The victim was checked out in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and then arrested.

The 40-year-old man has been charged with arson with disregard for human life and arson causing property damage.

The charges have not been proven in court.
