LaSalle police provide tips as hunting season begins

Goose hunting season is underway, and LaSalle police have reminded people of the bylaws regarding hunting.

Hunters are already out on the Detroit River, with goose hunting season beginning this past Thursday.

Police say that the river is the only place in LaSalle where firing a weapon is allowed, with the following exceptions.

  • Hunters must point their firearms and shoot away from the shoreline only.

  • Hunters must be extra cautious of other boaters and those who may be fishing.

  • Hunters must use firearms in a safe, lawful manner.

  • Hunting is not permitted on Sundays.

LaSalle police say there are stiff penalties for hunters who do not obey the bylaws.

"Any violation of these bylaws may result in significant consequences, including fines of up to $5,000 upon conviction," read the Town's official website. "Compliance with these regulations is of utmost importance to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors in the Town of LaSalle."

Duck hunting season begins on September 28.
