Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a man for speeding, and then assaulting the officer who stopped him.
An officer conducting speed enforcement on Mersea Road 1 in Leamington clocked a vehicle going 100 kilometres per hour in a 60-kilometre-per-hour zone, shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday.
The driver initially ignored the officer but eventually stopped the vehicle.
During the traffic stop, the driver allegedly became combative, resisted arrest, and struck the officer, who had to use a Taser to subdue the suspect.
The 36-year-old man from North York has been charged with stunt driving, fleeing an officer, assaulting an officer, and assaulting an officer with intent to resist arrest.
The charges have not been proven in court.
The suspect will have a chance to respond to the charges in a Windsor court on October 17.
