As preparation for the 2025 municipal budget begins, Windsor's mayor has ordered a stop on full-time hiring.
Mayor Drew Dilkens announced on Thursday afternoon that a corporate hiring freeze is implemented for full-time positions, per the Ontario Municipal Act.
"Today, I’m taking an additional step to honour my campaign commitment to keep budgets in line with inflation by implementing an immediate corporate hiring freeze at the City of Windsor," said Dilkens in a media release. "Together, we can keep Windsor affordable while continuing to make the investments necessary for building Windsor’s future."
Earlier this week, the mayor had hinted that property tax increases may be in store for 2025. Dilkens then announced the creation of three budgetary committees that will hold required public meetings, starting the week of September 23.
The City's current budget, adopted in February, passed with a 3.91 per cent property tax increase.
