Amherstburg celebrates groundbreaking on new fire hall

Construction on the new Amherstburg fire station is officially underway.

The fire station, which will replace Stations 1 and 3, is being built on town land near the Libro Credit Union Centre.

"This is awesome, this has become a seven-year project that began two councils ago," said retired Fire Chief Bruce Montone.

The new modern fire station is expected to improve response times, as well as health and safety standards for firefighters.

"On day one there will be almost 4,000 households that will receive the service level that council had directed us to provide many, many years ago," said Montone.

The project will cost around $11.3 million and is expected to be completed by August 2025.

Once the new station is completed, Fire Station 1 attached to town hall and Fire State 3 near Malden Centre will be decommissioned.
