Students at the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board exceeded Ontario averages in last year's standardized tests.
"Once again we are meeting with great success and we really want to celebrate that with our educators, our students and of course our families who support us along the way," said Melissa Farrand, Executive Superintendent of Student Achievement.
In the primary grades, 79 per cent of students met the provincial standard in reading, 77 per cent met the provincial standard in writing, and 69 per cent met the provincial standard in math. All of these scores are 8 to 13 per cent higher than province-wide test scores.
At the junior level, 91 per cent met the provincial standard in reading and writing and 59 per cent met the standard in math. These are 9 to 11 per cent higher than province-wide test results.
In the Grade 9 math assessment, only 58 per cent of students met the provincial standard. Across the province, 54 per cent of students reached the standard.
"We know that there's work to be done in the area of mathematics but we have a very strategic approach to addressing those foundational skills and foundational understanding of number and we're confident that they will be able to meet with success in the years to come," said Farrand.
Throughout the board, 91 per cent of students passed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test on their first attempt.
Each school will be given their results and teachers will use the data to help shape future lesson plans.
"Our teachers have incredible observations and conversations with students day in and day out. But we'll start to analyze this data and we plan appropriate interventions and support accordingly," said Farrand.
