OPP issues tickets during targeted weekend patrol zones

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leamington had their hands full with a targeted enforcement area on the weekend.

Patrol officers focused their efforts on Robson Road on Friday and Saturday.

"Focused patrol zones are identified based on community feedback, statistics, and officer input," read a release from the OPP. "Current focused patrol zones for Leamington include Mersea Road 1, Robson Road, Cherry Lane, and Leamington Marina."

On Friday, officers noticed numerous groups gathering at the marina, and emphasized educating people about dangerous driving behaviour and trespassing on private property.

On Saturday, a driver was seen doing donuts in the marina parking lot. Police stopped the 25-year-old Leamington man and charged him with stunt driving in a community zone. His licence was suspended for 30 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Throughout the weekend, police stopped drivers in the targeted area and wrote citations for running red lights, running stop signs, trespassing, and making unnecessary noise.

This past weekend's enforcement efforts followed a similar blitz on Mersea Road 1 in August.
