LaSalle acts to improve pedestrian safety on Front Road

Construction starts this week on three new pedestrian signals along Front Road in LaSalle.

The three, at Front Road and Bouffard Road, Huron Street, and Boismier Avenue, will take about four weeks to install, and the town said there could be lane restrictions during construction.

"During the construction period, there will be temporary lane closures in both directions at various times of the day and different locations," said a release. "Informing residents of these closures will be challenging and change daily."

The town instructed the contractor to close lanes during off-peak times whenever possible.

Because of the high volume and speed of the traffic on Front Road, town councillors opted to install pedestrian signals instead of crossovers.

The signals will remain green until a pedestrian presses the button. At that time, the light will turn yellow and then red.

The signals are similar to the ones installed recently on Sprucewood Avenue.
