Significiant damage in house fire near downtown

"A complete loss" is how Windsor Chief Fire Prevention Officer Mike Coste describes the damage from a house fire early Monday morning on Elliott Street East at Mercer Street.

Firefighters were called to the home just after 4 a.m. and found the structure fully engulfed with flames.

Coste said early damage estimates put the financial loss at over half a million dollars, but he cautioned that the number is likely to increase.

The fire is now the subject of a joint fire and Windsor Police investigation.

No one was hurt, but investigators will be on the scene on Monday looking for the cause.
