LaSalle police arrest fifth impaired driver in two weeks

LaSalle police have grown concerned about a trend in impaired driving that is going in the wrong direction.

A patrol officer conducted a traffic stop for speeding on Front Road at around 7 a.m. Wednesday. When the officer interacted with the driver, they found signs of impairment.

A 32-year-old LaSalle man was charged with driving with more than 50 milligrams of alcohol in blood. His licence was also suspended for three days in addition to a ticket for speeding.

Police say this arrest is the fifth one of its kind within the last two weeks. With the holiday season approaching, investigators are worried.

"This is a troubling trend that poses a serious risk to public safety," read a Facebook post from the LaSalle police. "Please remember, never drive impaired, and always plan ahead for a safe ride home."
