New commercial plaza under development in Essex

Residents in Essex will soon have more quick-serve restaurant options.

JK Development GP2 Limited is constructing a new commercial development on Talbot Street across from Essex High School.

"There was a lot of good leasing interest here," said John Knifton, Managing Partner, JK Development GP2 Limited. "I do attribute the quick lease-up because of our location across the street from the high school. This is also a very growing and expanding part of Essex."

The space has already been completely leased out and will include Wendy’s in front, with a 6,000 square foot building behind that will house a Mary Brown’s, Osmow’s, Stacked Pancakes & Breakfast House, and City Pizza.

"It's great to have more job opportunities for our local students. The high school is right across the road, so they will be able to pick up shifts right after high school," said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy.

The town is sharing costs with the developer to install a pedestrian crossing from the high school to the new restaurants.

Construction is already underway and will wrap up by the spring of 2025.
