Public school board elects chair and vice chair

Gale Simko-Hatfield will serve another term as chair of the Greater Essex County District School Board's board of trustees.

The trustee who represents Windsor Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8 was elected during Tuesday night's meeting.

"As an educational organization, we are committed to creating confident learners in our classrooms, respectfully engaging communities in meaningful ways, and demonstrating ethical stewardship of our limited resources," said Hatfield. "In the year ahead, we will be engaging in a new model of doing business through our recently adopted governance bylaws, guided by best practices which should allow for a clear focus on student achievement and well-being."

Trustee Connie Buckler was elected vice chair. She represents the Town of Tecumseh and the Municipality of Lakeshore.

Simko-Hatfield and Buckler will serve in those positions for 12 months.

The board of trustees meets again on January 21, 2025.
