A new DaVinci Xi surgical robot has been purchased for the region thanks to donations from the Grow On Windsor campaign.
The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation campaign raised $2.7 million this year.
The new machine replaces the original DaVinci purchased over ten years ago to perform surgeries on local cancer patients.
“The DaVinci Xi represents the type of cutting-edge medical technology that this community wants and deserves. People can stay here to get treatment with confidence knowing that they are getting the very best care close to home. This is also what we need to attract the best and brightest medical professionals. This is the way of the future,” said Dr. Sindu Kanjeekal, Chief of Oncology at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre.
The surgical robot is used for minimally invasive surgery on prostate and kidney cancer patients.
“The goal of every campaign is to ensure that local patients have access to the innovative technology and treatments that can change their lives. Together, we are making advanced care accessible to those who need it most. This wouldn’t be possible without your generous contributions,” said Houida Kassem, executive director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation.
This year's campaign started with $1.6 million in donations from eight major groups CIBC Bank, the Polonia Club, the Toldo Foundation, the Scott Family Foundation, Ground Effects Ltd., the Morris and Beverly Baker Foundation the Schwab family, and the Zekleman family.
