Young players to hit the ice in this year's Hockey For Hospice tournament

For 27 years, thousands of young hockey players have collected pledges to support the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.

The Hockey for Hospice tournament starts Friday at hockey arenas across the region, including the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex in LaSalle, the Libro Complex in Amherstburg, the Essex Centre Sports Complex, and Tecumseh Arena.

Over three days, 115 teams with players aged four to 14 will compete in more than 200 matches.

The tournament has raised more than $5.2-million to support services for those at the end of life.

Last year's event collected $587,780, a record topping the previous year's total of $531,264.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
