One dead, firefighter hurt in Windsor house fire

Windsor fire officials say one person is dead and a firefighter was injured in an early-morning house fire.

Few details are available, but first responders were called at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday to the home on Askin Avenue off Cabana Road West.

The fire took a few hours to extinguish, as crews remained on the scene to take care of hotspots.

One person was found dead inside the home. The victim has not been publicly identified.

A firefighter has also been treated for burnt hands.

Windsor police and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office continue to investigate the fire.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
