24-hour mental health crisis centre now available

Hours and services are expanding at Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital's Mental Health and Addictions Urgent Crisis Centre.

The clinic, located at Windsor Regional Hospital's Ouellette campus next to the emergency department, will now have 24 hours a day, seven days a week access for EMS and police personnel.

"This is one more tool to enhance services, to get police and EMS back on the road, where they belong, quicker and to allow ultimately that patient or client to get the care that she or he requires, with follow up. It's really those pathways that are important," said Bill Marra, CEO of HDGH.

Drop-in services are still available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Drop-in services will be expanded to 24 hours a day once procedures for police and EMS are established.

The Urgent Crisis Centre will also have four beds to allow patients to stay for up to 48 hours.

"Obviously the goal is to create a pathway to referrals or other services that they may require as part of their recovery," said Marra.

The clinic will be run with existing mental health funding from HDGH.
