Over 1,000 students suspended

Over 1,000 elementary school students were suspended on Monday for incomplete vaccination records.

According to the Immunization of School Pupils Act, students attending school in Ontario must provide the health unit with immunization records.

To date, 98 per cent of students have complied.

Nearly 3,700 students were issued suspension notices in January. Now, 1,016 students have been suspended for missing the deadline.

Suspended students need to provide the Windsor Essex County Health Unit with records for missing immunizations or a valid exemption. Once the records are updated, students can return to school immediately.

For information on updating a student's records or receiving vaccinations, visit the health unit's website.
