Essex County mayors to join Border Mayors Alliance

All seven mayors of Essex County will be joining the Border Mayors Alliance.

The alliance, co-chaired by Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, was established to unite Canadian border mayors in an effort to protect economic and developmental interests.

It will cost the County of Essex around $10,000 for all seven local mayors to have a seat at the table.

"I think it's a good idea, I think when you look at the investment that's there, it's a good investment," said Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara. "We have to fight for our jobs, we've got to fight for our region, we got to fight and help the province and certainly the country."

The alliance has been working together since February to identify alternative supply chains for municipal procurement and identify support available for local businesses and employees.

"The municipal voice is something that needs to be heard in this conversation because these businesses are in our communities, these people live in our communities, they pay taxes and we are going to be severely impacted," said Kingsville Mayor Dennis Rogers.
