Local skater brings home gold

A local figure skater came home with a gold medal from the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Breanna Williams, 16, skated for Team Canada during the March 14-18 games.

This was Williams' first time competing at an international level.

She earned her spot on Team Canada after winning gold in her solo figure skating event at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary in February 2024.

Williams has been skating since the age of four.

"Breanna’s gold medal win is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and passion for figure skating. She has not only brought pride to Windsor-Essex but also inspired athletes across Canada with her incredible achievement," said Cathy Mombourquette of the John McGivney Children’s Centre, where Williams has been a long-time client.
