Two meetings set aside for public input on GECDSB's budget

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites the public to offer their input on the budget for the next school year at two meetings.

The school board faces a $6.3-million deficit and must submit a plan to balance the budget by the 2026-27 school year.

So far, the board has cut 63 positions in special education, including in the Reaching Individual Success and Excellence or RISE program. Other cuts were to the International Baccalaureate program and speech pathology.

The Finance and Facility Services Committee will hear from the public on April 8 and May 13 at 5 p.m. Those who wish to appear as a delegation must complete the Delegation Request Form at least 48 hours before the meeting starts.

The meetings will held at the board's office at 451 Park Street West.

The board typically finalizes its budget in June.
