Public board highlights co-op opportunities

Over 500 students from the Greater Essex County District School Board got the chance to connect to community employers and explore co-op opportunities at the WFCU Centre this week.

The school board hosted the event for Grade 10 students interested in the school's Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).

This year, around 2,000 students with the board participated in the programs and around 80 community organizations and employers hosted the co-op students throughout the community.

"We can teach them awesome, great things in the classroom, but we know that learning outside by professionals and learning on the job is the best way to know whether that is something that you want to do," said Justin St Pierre, Lead of the SHSM program at the GECDSB.

After students had an opportunity to explore what the program has to offer, they enjoyed a Windsor Express basketball game.
