Pedestrian dies following afternoon crash

One person has died in the Municipality of Leamington after being hit by a vehicle.

Emergency crews were called to a fatal collision on Erie Street South at about 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said that a pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

As of 6:30 p.m., Erie Street South between Georgia Avenue and Pulford Avenue was closed to continue the investigation. Police added that the closure will last for several hours.

The OPP is asking anyone with details about the incident to come forward. Anyone with information can contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
