Over 98,000 electors voted early in advance polls

Over 7 million people cast their ballot in the advance polls last weekend, and more than 98,000 were in Windsor and Essex County.

Elections Canada released the number of voters who cast their ballots early in each federal riding on Friday.

In Chatham-Kent-Leamington, 24,790 of the riding's 86,615 eligible voters cast a ballot last Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

In 2021, 63.8 per cent of those eligible to vote did.

The highest turnout at advance polls in this region was in the riding of Essex, where 34,668 voters voted early. Of the riding's 105,281 eligible voters in the last federal election, 66.9 voted.

A total of 23,912 people voted last weekend in the new riding of Windsor-Tecumseh-Lakeshore. There were 94,424 registered voters in the 2021 federal election, and voter turnout was 53.4 per cent.

Windsor West saw fewer advance voters, with 14,676. In the last federal vote, the number of eligible voters was 92,207, and the voter turnout was 66.9 per cent.

The federal election is on Monday.
