Tecumseh company fined $60,000 for 2022 accident

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has fined a Tecumseh company following its investigation of an incident that gravely injured an employee.

The accident took place at Precision Stamping in Oldcastle on November 28, 2022. According to the labour ministry, a quality technician was inspecting completed stamped metal parts on metal racks, when a forklift collided with the racks and created a pinch point.

The employee was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

During the investigation, the forklift driver had noted issues with the vehicle's brakes, which failed completely just before the accident.

Precision Stamping was fined $60,000 for failure to "ensure that the forklift was maintained in good condition".

The company must also pay a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge, which is credited to a special provincial government fund to assist victims of crime.
