Inmate death under investigation

An investigation into the death of an inmate at the Southwest Detention Centre is underway.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of the Solicitor General confirmed the inmate died on June 16.

"As there are investigations underway related to the death, we are unable to provide additional information," said Brent Ross, Spokesperson, Ministry of the Solicitor General. "Please note, when an inmate passes away while in custody there are multiple investigations that occur, including by the coroner’s office and police."

Windsor police also confirmed they are investigating the death. However, as the investigation is in its early stages they are not sharing any additional information at this time.
