OPP arrest suspect in series of Essex County break-ins

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a Leamington man following a stretch of break-and-enters over the past three months.

Beginning on April 4, the OPP responded to at least 12 break-and-enters in Kingsville and Leamington.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit were investigating the series of break-ins in Leamington when they saw a man trying to flee the scene of the latest one.

A 35-year-old Leamington man is charged with 12 counts of break-and-enter, 12 counts of break-and-enter to commit an offence, four counts of mischief under $5,000, three counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, and one count of possession of break-in instruments.

The charges have not been proven in court. The suspect has been held pending a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
