Charges laid after sexual assault of a minor

The Essex County Ontario Provincial Police has laid charges in relation to a sexual assault of a minor.

The OPP reports it began the investigation on Wednesday.

On Thursday, a 46-year-old from Amherstburg was arrested and charged with sexual interference and sexual assault on a person under 16.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.

Further details about the case have not been released to protect the identity of the victim.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
