Operation Safe Driver starts Sunday

Ontario Provincial Police officers in Essex County will be putting an extra focus on safe driving this week.

Between Sunday, July 13, 2025, and Saturday, July 19, 2025, the Essex County detachment will be participating in Operation Safe Driver.

Patrol officers will be out on local roadways and handing out tickets for speeding, distracted driving, pre-trip inspections, commercial vehicle permits, logbooks, weight restrictions, means of attachment, unsafe loads, insurance and licensing infractions.

Residents and travellers should expect to see an increased police presence on the roads.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
