Agent for 2021 federal election candidate faces charges under the Canada Elections Act

An official agent for a candidate in the 2021 federal election in Windsor-Tecumseh faces three charges under the Canada Elections Act.

The charges were laid against Marites Brown, who was the official agent for People's Party of Canada candidate Victor Green.

The first charge is for submitting an incomplete campaign return. The other two charges are related to cheques from Elections Canada that were allegedly deposited into Brown's personal account.

Elections Canada said the first cheque, for $18,319, was deposited in January. The second for $5,000 was deposited between last October and January. That cheque was intended for an account at the Royal Bank associated with the campaign. The charge alleges the amount was stolen.

The outcome of the case is pending.
