Strike averted at Veterans Cab

Drivers at Veterans Cab were ready to walk off the job on Monday to back demands in contract talks, but it wasn't necessary.

The members of Unifor Local 195 voted 79 per cent in favour of a deal reached on Friday.

"Our union appreciates the trust that the members placed in the bargaining team, which successfully averted a potential strike," said a release. "Both the company and the union dedicated long hours overnight to reach a satisfactory deal that both parties can support for the duration of the agreement."

The cab industry faces significant competition from driver services like Lyft and Uber.

Unifor members voted 96.5 per cent in favour of strike action to back their demands.
