RFP for new hospital to be issued soon

The request for proposals for the Fancsy Family Hospital will be issued shortly.

The redevelopment team continues to work with clinicians, front-line staff, patients, and families to develop the building requirements.

"The design process is quickly underway and ramping up at lightspeed," said Brand Bailey, VP of Redevelopment at Windsor Regional Hospital. "We've had hundreds and hundreds of user group meetings where we meet with our clinical leaders, our patients, community representatives to really hone in on the design aspects that will go into the design of the new hospital."

Bailey said the goal is to have shovels in the ground early next year. It will take five to seven years to complete once construction is underway.

"This procurement model that we're working with Infrastructure Ontario on is unique in that the proponents will bid a schedule. At this point, it's too early to determine exactly what the schedule will be," said Bailey.

Early estimates had the construction budget at $2 billion. It's expected that the budget has increased significantly due to inflation and tariffs.
