Suspect arrested in Windsor break-in, theft of sports car

Windsor police say a 34-year-old man has been arrested following an incident last week in which a home was broken into and a Porsche stolen.

Officers were called in the early hours of Friday, August 15, to a home on Wilcox Avenue off Roselawn Drive. They learned that someone had broken into the garage, grabbed the keys to the sports car, and driven off in it.

The Porsche was recovered later that morning in a parking lot on Wyandotte Street East and Aylmer Avenue.

Police also determined that the same suspect was linked to two attempted break-and-enters that evening.

The suspect was identified and arrested on Thursday in the area of Glengarry Avenue and University Avenue East.

He is charged with break-and-enter, possession of stolen property over $5,000, motor vehicle theft, and two counts of attempting to commit an indictable offence.

The charges have not been proven in court.

The Windsor police's Auto Theft Unit has encouraged residents to send them any video footage showing people attempting to enter their vehicles.
