Over $9-million pledged to expand Kingsville water infrastructure

Essex MPP Anthony Leardi makes no bones about it. The millions of dollars pledged to expand Kingsville's water infrastructure is about building new homes.

A total of $9,035,681 is from Ontario's Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.

"This investment is about one thing: building more homes," said Leardi on Wednesday. "By supporting new homes in Kingsville, we're helping young people put down roots, and making sure seniors can stay close to their families."

Kingsville plans to use the funding for its Southwest Service Area Watermain Expansion project.

The project aims to support the development of nearly 3,000 new housing units, while also increasing water service capacity for the existing 5,000 residents. This expansion is expected to help address local housing demand and improve infrastructure reliability for current and future residents.

"Kingsville is committed to building a strong, sustainable future for our community, and that means making smart investments in the infrastructure that supports our residents, businesses, and long-term vision," said Kingsville Mayor Dennis Rogers.

Last Friday, Leardi made a similar $9.3-million announcement in Amherstburg to support the construction of 1,101 new homes.
